How fast can you fall asleep? 15 minutes? 30 minutes? It's amazing how something as natural as sleep can seem so difficult. In fact, you may be one of the millions of people reporting difficulty in falling asleep. I wish I had the ultimate solution to fall asleep fast. But I don't. What I do have is a solution that works for me. In fact, it works incredibly well. But it may not work for you. If you're still interested, I'll let my secret out.

A couple years ago I had extreme difficulty falling asleep. I would sometimes spend two or three hours just laying in bed before the wave of sleep set in. I could not stop my brain from thinking. I would just sit there in agony, glancing at the clock every few minutes, and worrying about how I would have to wake up in just a couple hours.

It's a fairly agonizing experience, and it's worse when it won't go away. I never wanted to call myself an "insomniac" -- that never felt right. But I just couldn't sleep!

I felt like I tried everything, from aromatherapy to warm baths to warm milk. And yes, I even tried "counting sheep". Sometimes one of those solutions worked, and I would get excited, only to find out the next night it wouldn't work a second time. I was desperate.

Well, yes, eventually I did find something that worked. But I want to be clear -- it has worked for me, and I have no proof how well it works for anyone else. You will have to find your own solution, but I hope my little "story" can at least guide some people toward that blissful sleep we all crave.

Since I tried to stay away from synthetic drugs like Ambien or Lunesta, I needed a natural remedy. What I found was a natural herb called Valerian. It's a plant that has been used for centuries as a natural sedative that helps slow down the mind and promote peaceful relaxation. The American Sleep Disorder Association has shown that it is useful for not only insomnia, but anxiety and stress as well.

So now I've been using natural sleep aids that contain Valerian extract and boy does it work well. It makes me fall asleep fast and wake up the next morning with a jolt of energy. My belief is simple: use natural sleep aids to get natural sleep; synthetic sleep drugs will give you artificial sleep.

So be on the lookout for Valerian. It has worked well for me.
